In response to a report published by Plus portal claiming that, “according to data from the Medical Chamber and the Healthcare Trade Union, Montenegro’s healthcare system has lost more than 250 healthcare workers over the past three years”, the Medical Chamber of Montenegro denies these claims.

The Medical Chamber of Montenegro has neither provided nor announced the figures currently being circulated publicly concerning the number of healthcare workers who have left Montenegro’s healthcare system.

Similar claims were also made from the parliamentary rostrum, stating that not 250 healthcare workers, but 250 doctors had left Montenegro’s healthcare system. The Medical Chamber of Montenegro stresses that it is not the source of these figures.

The Chamber has repeatedly emphasised that Montenegro’s healthcare system should operate as a single labour market and that movement of doctors and other healthcare workers from the public to the private sector, and vice versa, is normal. In the Chamber’s view, public–private partnerships are the most appropriate response to the shortcomings discussed in healthcare, including doctor shortages and waiting lists. These are the issues that should be the subject of parliamentary debate.
